2016, a year that the world seems ready to quickly put behind them. The industry lost many iconic music figureheads - but also saw some incredible new talent emerge and paved the way for the release of tons of new music.
As we look ahead to what 2017 has in store for the Big Picnic family, let’s take a look back at some of the great things that emerged for our artists in particular this year.
Our favorite folk duo JOHNNYSWIM dropped their sophomore album Georgica Pond to incredible industry and fan response. The band performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and on the TODAY show. The band toured the record on the sold out Let It Matter tour.
Arizona’s The Maine spent the entirety of their summer on the Vans Warped Tour - headlining the main stage for the first time. The band also performed with Third Eye Blind at the Alternative Press Music Awards - where they were nominated for Album of The Year and Most Dedicated Fanbase - both nods to 2015’s American Candy.
Indie three-piece Sons Of An Illustrious Father released their long awaited full length record Revol while performing shows scattered across the US.
Corbu released a brand new LP - Crayon Soul - which was covered by alternative and mainstream media alike on an international level. The band had a huge and successful tour with Bloc Party earlier this year.
Bernhoft returned to the United States for a live tour and also released his incredible EP Stop / Shutup / Shout It Out.
We were excited to finally release UK band Everything Everything’s debut full length over here in America. Get To Heaven saw the band through their first US tour and a series of performances at SXSW.
Big Picnic also welcomed several new artists to the family earlier this year - badass female rapper Aristophanes and the talented R&B/Soul extraordinaire Jonny P.
We can’t wait to share so much new music with you in 2017! From all of us here at Big Picnic, happy new year!
